Morino Ibiki 010913

Name: Morino Ibiki
Age: 21
Birthday: 20 March
Rank outside ANBU: Special Jounin
Affiliated with which ANBU branch: Intelligence -- Torture and Interrogation
Registration Number: 010913

Physical Appearance
Height: 193.5 cm (6'4")
Weight: 88 kg (194 lbs)
Blood Type: A positive
Hair: Soft coal black, worn long enough to pull back into a neatly trimmed ponytail that hits just above his shoulder blades.
Eyes: Dark enough brown to be called black. Deep-set, narrow and fringed with dense, dark lashes. His eyebrows are heavy enough to be decidedly masculine, sculpted enough to be quite expressive, but usually set in what seems to be a permanent scowl when his face is at rest.
Skin: Ibiki's complexion is sallow, with acne scars marring the smoothness of his skin.
Facial Features: Striking but far from handsome, Ibiki has an almost gaunt-looking face, with high cheekbones above hollowed cheeks. His jaw is strong and angular, with a dimpled chin, and his nose is large and prominent. His mouth can twist remarkably quickly from the thin line of a disapproving glare to the broad grin of a total fool.
Other Physical Traits: Tall and powerfully built, with broad shoulders and a muscular torso. Long-limbed, but quick moving despite his bulk, he is an altogether imposing man.
Handedness: Right handed.
Voice: Low and even. Cooler than a pond surface at dawn the day before the water freezes.
Identifying Marks: A parallel pair of prominent scars run diagonally across his face. One ranges from just below the inner corner of his right eye to the edge of his jaw below his right ear. The other starts high on his left temple, dives down his face to cross his lips, and ends on his chin. The scars are darkly pigmented and still somewhat new. They were received in combat, when an enemy's clawed weapon raked his face. The strike would have killed him, had Ibiki not been turning away, evading the blow even as it landed. The Mist Nin who gave him the mark did not survive.
Usual Clothing: Utilitarian, heavy duty fabrics when not in uniform: jeans, solid-colored t-shirts, and denim work shirts. On duty he usually wears an interrogator's uniform--Intel dress greys with a sweeping black leather coat and a pair of black gloves. When he takes field missions he wears standard ANBU gear.
ANBU Mask: Green and white with a reptilian appearance.
Living Situation: ANBU HQ, third floor, next to the elevator.

Skills
Ninja Skills Genjutsu is where his real talent lies, and his taijutsu is impressive. Ninjutsu is his weakest area, but one he rarely needs to rely on. His physical stamina is high, but his mental staying power is his greatest strength.
Fighting Style: In combat, Ibiki prefers to trap his enemies in genjutsu, then pick them off one by one. He's powerfully built and a fearsome hand-to-hand fighter, but he usually isn't anywhere near an enemy until after the battle is over. He comes in where the Hunters leave off, and extracts information. By whatever means necessary. Even being nice.
Preferred Weapons: Intelligence, cunning, and a superior understanding of the human psyche. One of his greatest strengths as an interrogator is the way Ibiki can make a person trust and confide in him, almost without effort. He can terrify a person with his imposing presence and obvious delight in his work, but more often he coaxes secrets from his enemies, even from subjects he himself has made to suffer. He can change so radically in demeanor from moment to moment, sliding from stern authority, to sadistic interrogator, to soothing confidante, that an outside observer would swear he has multiple personalities.
Service Record: Genin 10, Chuunin 15, Special Jounin 17, recruited into ANBU at 19 by Shida Akumaru, ANBU's director of Torture and Interrogation, and immediately placed in that department under the tutelage of the infamous man.

Personality
General Personality Traits: Introvert. Reserved. Observant. Quietly forceful. He is a young man with a commanding presence; other people tend to take orders from him unhesitatingly. Duty, integrity, loyalty, strength, and respect are key words for Ibiki. He is stoic, manipulative and wary, trusting few. Because of his large size and his serious, almost stern demeanor, he is often mistakenly assumed to be older than he is. He expects a high level of professionalism from those around him, and for them to pay at least as much attention to detail as he himself does, which is quite a bit.
Quirks: Likes to build models, especially model ships. Goofy sense of humor. Vegetarian who nonetheless eats fish. Terrible cook--he has been known to catch a pot of instant ramen on fire.
Sexual Orientation: Straight, but with a twist he has yet to come to terms with. Ibiki's recruitment into ANBU's torture and interrogation department was based in part on Intel's desire to exploit his latent but developing sadism. He is most disturbed when interrogating a male subject results in arousal, and is somewhat homophobic as a result.
Gifts/Talents: Inborn ability to command. Natural leader. Insightful and analytical. Able to earn trust from an interrogation subject.
Flaws: Sadistic, insular, hard-line when it comes to following the rules. Ibiki is judgmental and has a low tolerance for flaws in others. He has an even lower tolerance for anything he sees as a sign of disloyalty.
Religion and Philosophy: Raised with a fairly secular version of Pure Land Buddhism, he follows a vegetarian diet, knows a few sutra, and has been known to wish a dying soul a better life the next time around, right before he sends them there.
Likes and Loves: Opera, control, order, obedience, free food, that moment when his subject breaks.
Dislikes and Hates: When women cry, people who can't think for themselves, traitors.
Fears: His family learning the true nature of his work in ANBU
Dreams and Ambitions: To succeed Shida Akumaru as director of ANBU T&I. To fall in love with and marry a woman who is his equal in every way.

Relationships
Family: Parents both living. Morino Hayao, his father, is a former bodyguard to Sandaime, and now a teacher at the Academy. His mother, Sadako, is an ANBU information specialist and data analyst. Older brother, Isao, deceased at thirteen, when Ibiki was nine. Younger brother, Idate, was born when Ibiki was thirteen--a surprise to the family. He's eight now, and in his second year of Academy.

Friends: Shiota Natsumi
Lovers: Ibiki is actually a bit of a romantic at heart. His more unusual appetites are sated on the job, but he has had no steady girlfriends. He has a soft spot for his former teammate Shiota Natsumi, but has never asked her out.
Hero: Danzou and Shida Akumaru
Enemies: Feared and disliked by many even within Konoha because of his close association with Shida Akumaru. He, however, does not count anyone in particular as a personal enemy.

Personal History:
Ibiki is one of several shinobi in his family, all cut from the same stern cloth. He became a ninja because that is what he has been raised to be. In the Morino family, Konoha always comes first. He has had this idea drilled into him from his earliest days.

Ibiki's parents taught their children that the highest goal they can aspire to is to serve their village and to offer their lives for their Hokage. His father, Morino Hayao, served as one of Sandaime Hokage's personal bodyguards, and was seriously injured and permanently disabled while protecting Sandaime from an assassination attempt by ninja from the Hidden Cloud when Ibiki was eleven. He now teaches at the academy. His mother, Sadako, is an ANBU Internal Ops information specialist.

When Ibiki was nine, his older brother, Isao, whom Ibiki idolized, died while still a genin. He was killed in the line of duty on a mission that went disastrously awry, for which he and his teammates were ill-prepared. Ibiki's younger brother, Idate, is eight, now at the academy, and Ibiki sees it as his duty, as eldest surviving sibling, to see that Idate does not suffer the same fate as Isao. To that end he drives his brother, drilling him, some would say bullying him, but Ibiki's actions stem from an underlying fear that his brother will die if Ibiki does not hone his skills to perfection.

Ibiki graduated the academy at ten, and was placed on a genin team with Shiota Natsumi and Setsuri Keigo, under sensei Nakamura Hitoshi. After a year of D- and C-ranked missions, they were assigned to back up a chuunin reinforcement team carrying supplies to the war's front lines. For nearly two years, they served as supply runners and message carriers, seeing the ugliness of war first hand. It was also during those years that Ibiki witnessed his first interrogation--a hastily conducted field affair that involved more physical than psychological coercion. The spark that stirred to life in Ibiki's psyche both horrified and fascinated him.

When he was thirteen, the team was temporarily split up for special duty detachments. Ibiki was assigned to Intel, working on codes and ciphers, Natsumi was sent to a specialized ranged-weapons team that provided backup and cover for the heavy-hitting assault teams, and Keigo, fleetest of the three, joined the runners; he was killed three months before the end of the war.

At war's end, Ibiki was reunited with Natsumi and a third genin who had lost his sensei and both teammates during the war. They failed their first attempt at the chuunin exam, when they were disqualified during the second round. The second time, Ibiki carefully briefed his teammates on what they needed to do to pass, and led his squad to victory.

He joined ANBU at nineteen, after showing a natural flair for Intelligence work, specifically torture and interrogation. On a mission in Lightning country, he and his team were ambushed and captured. He turned the perilous situation to his advantage, escaping from his bonds and taking out the shinobi who had captured and killed most of his team. He then interrogated the leader himself, employing the brutal but effective method of torturing the Cloud leader's teammates to death with their own implements, while the captive watched.

His understanding of the enemy's psyche, ability to remain calm both under torture himself, and later while administering the same treatment to his prisoner, and the professionalism with which he handled the situation were what brought him to the ANBU recruiters' attention. His sensei and mentor in ANBU, Shida Akumaru, is director of T&I, and has carefully nurtured and developed his student's natural abilities, helping to mold Ibiki into a skilled intelligence operative.

Special Notes: The most frightening thing about Ibiki is that he genuinely enjoys his work as an interrogator. He finds it arousing to have complete control of a prisoner. Those who call him a sadist are not mistaken. The first time he got an erection while interrogating a prisoner he was disgusted and ashamed, and hastily constructed a genjutsu to disguise it. His mentors in ANBU, however, rather than being horrified by his deviance, encourage it. He has learned to let his interrogation subjects be aware of his arousal, using it as yet another method to coerce the reluctant to talk.
